Inverie is a small community situated on the Knoydart Peninsula. The vast majority of its 17,500 acres belongs to the Knoydart Foundation, a charitable managed organisation that offers a unique and idyllic lifestyle, for its hosts of approximately 100 residents.
Residents of Knoydart are welcomed and actively encouraged to embrace the way of life. The aim of the foundation is to manage the estate as an area of employment and settlement on the Knoydart Peninsula without detriment to its natural beauty and character. Also seeking and encouraging the preservation of its landscape, natural resources and heritage.
The foundation is easily accessible and offers support to its community as well as arranging all manner of activities at the village hall. There is a year round programme of events of fund-raising, art, music, sport, quiz nights, bingo and ceilidh dances as well as a monthly newsletter.
The area is regarded by many hillwalkers as amongst the finest mountains in Scotland, with Munros to include Ladhar Bheinn that enjoys a superb position with its dramatic ridges, huge crags falling into Coire Dhorrcail and amazing sea and mountain views from the summit.
In common with the small isles, a residents permit is required to drive on the roads of Knoydart.
Mallaig is a picturesque fishing port which provides a range of shops including 2 well-stocked supermarkets, hotels, medical centre, primary and secondary schools, modern swimming pool and leisure facilities. There are railway connections on the West Highland Line to Fort William and a major ferry terminal for ferry services to Knoydart, Skye, the Inner and Outer Isles. The Marina has excellent facilities, including pontoon berths and moorings.
Inverie is the main settlement on the Knoydart Peninsula, some of the amenities include a trading shop, venison larder, post office, primary school, bunkhouse, bed & breakfasts, a village hall and it hosts the most remote public house on mainland Britain. In common with the small isles, a residents permit is required to drive on the roads of Knoydart.
The nearest and largest town from Mallaig is Fort William, the main district town of Lochaber and is known as the “Outdoor Capital of the UK”. There are a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, a railway station with links to Mallaig, Glasgow, Edinburgh and an overnight sleeper to London.

From Fort William head North along the A82 Inverness Road until reaching Fort William’s Distillery. At the roundabout take the A830 Road to the Isles passing through Glenfinnan and Lochialort until reaching Mallaig. On reaching Mallaig you will be required to board a ferry to access the Knoydart Peninsula.

On arrival at Knoydart bear right, for approximately half a mile (south east) of the centre of Inverie village. Arrangements can be made if required for prospective buyers to be met at the Pier for transportation to the cottage. You will be required to make the return journey by foot which is likely to take approximately 15 minutes.
